The plug-in to browse Mercurial repositories was updated, it now handles more cases correctly.

The idea behind these plug-ins is that you can thus compare a specific tag or revision in your Mercurial repository with your local hard drive, an FTP site but as well with a Visual Source Safe, a SubVersion or whichever other SCC that ECMerge supports (see SCC Tool Dialog Box).

This new plug-in version is included in the upcoming 2.2.106 version.

Mercurial is a distributed source code control (also known as Hg).

ECMerge is a differentiation and merge tool which let you generate comparison report amongst many other things, thus being able to list SCC repositories directly without the need for an intermediate “get files” step simplifies your life.

The Mercurial integration works by calling your hg.exe / hg binary (it is automatically found if it is present in your PATH environment variable, you can set the path as well in the Preferences/SCC Tools page).  You then use the SCC Source dialog box to define URL looking like: hg:/<localpath-of-your-base-repo-dir>;type=db/<path-in-repository>.  You can then browse directories and read files as they were at the various revisions.

You can install the Mercurial plug-in for ECMerge by getting the following file and copying it in your SCC sub-directory of the ECMerge installation directory : http://www.soft.elliecomputing.com/soft/ecmerge/scc/mercurial.xml

SCP is a secure protocol to transfer files based on SSH, SFTP (SSH FTP) is a newer SSH FTP with more directory and file operations integrated.

ECMerge does integrate a FTP supporting multiple parallel connection, but does not yet integrate a SCP or SFTP protocol client. However you can still use ECMerge to compare your files updated through these protocol. WinSCP is well known SCP/SFTP client which let you compare your files with the differ of your choice. The base differ is simply “fc” which is really basic. 

To configure WinSCP for ECMerge, go to the Preferences panel, then the Commands page, the “File Compare” can be configured this way:

c:\progam files\ellié compuing\merge\guimerge.exe --mode=diff2 "!" "!^!"

We have a problem with Mercurial command line tool which seems not to like some “get” commands (‘cat’ command in hg.exe jargon) in parallel. We need to investigate more.

These days we are adding built-in support for Mercurial (aka hg) the distributed version control.

The system already works and can list the content of the various folders and files, at any revision. It works only with local repository yet.

This day we built and released ECMerge 2.2.105.

This version fixes a bug in Xtract which would produce ‘zero’ bytes in some cases in text files (on some RTF files)… ECMerge would then treat the text files as binary files.

Build 2.2.105 contains the Brazilian translation.
